The annual Penwortham Live event has had a virtual makeover and is coming into people’s homes this weekend.

Organisers have revealed a programme of live music taking place across the weekend on www.facebook.com/groups/livingroomlive.

Their aim is to treat people to performances by local favourites, bringing them music from across the decades and much-needed entertainment after the original programme was cancelled because of the coronavirus crisis.

Nigel Stewart from Creative Network, one of the creators of the event, said: “When we started this off nearly ten years ago, it was all about people – our people, our community, our values; that remains the case now.

“In the midst of this situation, we want to bring people together to celebrate what we share in South Ribble through the power of live music.”

South Ribble Council cabinet member Aniela Bylinski Gelder said: “I’m so pleased that we’ve been able to give a much-loved South Ribble event a virtual makeover!

“It is of course disappointing that we cannot enjoy this event face-to-face across all of the well-loved venues across Penwortham, but we need to respect the government guidelines and do all we can to stay safe.”

“It’s incredible how everyone has come together to make sure we can all still enjoy fantastic music – even if it is from the comfort of our own homes.”

“This is set to be a great event and I can’t wait to watch all of the performances at home this weekend. I hope you all can join in!”

The event will take place from 7pm on Friday 15 and Saturday 16 May on www.facebook.com/groups/livingroomlive
