THE Chorley FC Former Players' Association has been officially opened by the club's community foundation.

Former Magpies captain Eddie Birchall was guest of honour at the 2019/20 season opener against Bromley at Victory Park.

Hemet chairman Ken Wright and first team management trio Jamie Vermiglio, Jonathan Smith and Andy Preece.

During Eddy's six-year spell at Victory Park (1963-69) he became a firm favourite with fans for his midfield displays, amassing 266 games and scoring 12 times.

Darren Jenkinson, who chairs the community foundation, said: "Chorley FC is a club steeped in history and the Former Player's Association is an important initiative.

"We hope to be able to share and capture memories from those who have played their part in getting the club to where it is today and launching it in the same year we celebrate 100 years at Victory Park fits perfectly."

Club chairman Ken Wright added: "A football club with the history and status of Chorley FC should have a former player's association and I'm delighted the trustees of our community foundation decide to introduce the initiative.

"Having a group focused on bringing more Magpies back to Victory Park for friendship and mutual support is a great thing for us to offer."
