UCLan joins forces with local community to host Refugee Week Events

Five free events will take place on the Preston Campus between 17 and 22 June

The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) has joined forces with city wide organisations to host a variety of free events marking Refugee Week.

Between 17 and 22 June, the Preston Campus will host five sessions covering migration and the struggles people face.

Those taking place include a workshop entitled 'The experiences of forced migrants'. delivered by the British Red Cross' Wonder Phiri, a film screening of 'Human Flow' and two sessions delivered by Amnesty International trainers.

UCLan academics Dr Raphael Hoermann and David Knight will each give lectures covering Windrush Day. The UCLan Dance and Confucius Institute will also be supporting a community event at the Sahara Centre.

Suely Ludgero-Newlove, UCLan's Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Communities Officer, said: "The University is pleased to be part of Preston's Refugee Week events. These events provide an insight into the personal stories and impacts of migration and displacement."

The Preston Black History Group and Preston City of Sanctuary are among the other organisations involved with the week of events. Dates, time, locations and booking details are now available.
