The first Lancashire Heath Research Showcase will take place this weekend to enable the public to find out more about what research is going on in the region and get hands on with various equipment and tools.

The family friendly showcase will take place on the Friday 12th and Saturday 13th April at Barton Grange Garden Centre with a range of presentations, information stands and activities.

Every day people across Lancashire collaborate with doctors, nurses and scientists to find answers to some of the most challenging health conundrums facing humans today.

This event is a unique opportunity to ask experts, bust health myths, get hands-on with a human mannequin and brain-scanning equipment, build a double helix and find out how randomised control trials work – the showcase is packed with entertainment for young children, teenagers and adults.

The event also provides visitors with a chance to find out about the world-class health research happening now at Lancashire’s new NIHR Lancashire Clinical Research Facility and how it’s helping to improve healthcare across Lancashire and South Cumbria.

There will also be four excellent speakers from Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, Lancashire Care, Lancaster University and UCLAN presenting on the 100,000 Genome Project, Lancaster University’s BabyLab, Wearable Hi-Tech healthcare and Robots at Rosemere, with a chance to ask questions to satisfy your curiosity.

Public collaboration in health research is vital – and anyone can be involved - you don’t need a pre-existing health condition – it’s fascinating and fun and there are lots of ways to help. Only by working together can we solve a myriad of health challenges, from cancer and dementia to autism and bed wetting.

Lancashire’s Lay Research Group would like to thank Barton Grange for hosting Lancashire’s first ‘Health Research Showcase’ in its Green Room.
