Brickworks plan 'moves forward'

THE company developing the former Cottam Hall Brickworks site in Preston has submitted an 'infrastructure planning application.'

The aim is to secure an alternative access into the site via Cottam Avenue. Phase one already has planning approval for 114 new homes and the current planning application will ensure development on the site a start as early as next year.

Gary Goodman, director at BXB Land Solutions, said: "We believe we are moving forward positively on the Cottam project.

"This planning application will ensure that previously approved planning permissions are delivered. And the delivery of 114 new homes on site will kick-start the wider Cottam Brickworks project.

"Should this planning application be approved, our attention can then turn to delivering the more complex and contaminated phase two land and providing the retail and leisure facilities the community are so desperate to see brought forward on this site.

"The issues facing us on the phase two land differ significantly from the phase one and will require cooperation from all stakeholders as the cost of bringing forward land that has been land filled is significant and currently unknown.

"However, we hope to be in position to start moving forward with further investigation and design work to determine the commercial viability of the phase two land early in the New Year."

The infrastructure planning application was prepared by Curtins and Nexus planning consultants and the site is being actively marketed for sale by CBRE Manchester.

It is estimated that phase one of the Brickworks project will deliver an additional £900,000 of spending into the local economy and generate up to 500 direct and indirect jobs.
