This change will keep the popular cycling and walking route open during construc- tion of the new Preston West- ern Distributor road scheme and allow people to continue to enjoy it safely. It will affect people on the Guild Wheel between Savick Brook and the bridge over Blackpool Road. The Guild Wheel will con- tinue to follow its existing route from the bridge to the rear of Old Hall Cottages, when the route will tempo- rarily run along a newly-con- structed section around the construction site. It will then join up to its existing route along Savick Brook. Once the construction work has finished in early 2023, the Guild Wheel will return to its current route. County Councillor Keith Iddon, cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “We have to make sure pedestrians and cyclists are kept safe during this work. This is a slight change, which doesn’t add much to the length of people’s route, with just a short diversion in place. “There’ll be signs up to tell people about the diversion. We ask people to be aware of these changes and any construction taking place.” The Preston Western Dis- tributor is one of the major road schemes as part of the Preston, South Ribble and Lancashire City Deal. Temporary change to the Guild Wheel HARRIS library staff have transferred from Lanca- shire County Council to Preston City Council to cre- ate one team at the historic city centre venue. The Harris is managed by the city council, working in partnership the county, and is in a transformative point in its history to create the UK’s first blended museum, art gallery and library. Council chiefs say bring- ing the museum and library together as a single service will help the Harris move forward with its vision for the Grade 1 listed building. Tim Joel, head of culture at Preston City Council, said: “Moving to a single team is a real boost to the ‘Re-imagining the Harris’ project which seeks to reposition the Harris as fo- cal point for creativity and making, digital technology, learning and reading.” Home to art collections of national significance, activi- ties and events for all ages and an award-winning con- temporary art programme, the Harris welcomed more than 384,000 visitors in 2018/19. The 125-year-old build- ing has received develop- ment funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund of £180,900 for the Re-Imagining project. New chapter for library staff THE family of a retired vicar who died after fall- ing on board a bus have paid tribute to him. Michael Buckley, 70, from Longridge, was injured af- ter falling on a stairway on the Longridge to Preston service on December 10. Rev Buckley suffered a head injury and was taken to Royal Preston Hospital for treatment but died on December 18. In a tribute, Rev Buck- ley’s family said: “Mi- chael Buckley was a de- voted husband, father and grandfather. “A retired clergyman, he was an active member of St Michael’s Grimsargh and St Lawrence with St Paul Lon- gridge, and a lifelong sup- porter of Southport Football Club.” Lancashire police say in investigation into Rev Buckley’s death is on-going.
