FORMER Burnley striker Andy Payton is the new manager at Hallmark Security League side Garstang.

He comes to the club after a long and distinguished professional playing career, with clubs including Hull City, Middlesbrough, Huddersfield, Barnsley and Celtic on his CV.

During his time on the pitch Andy made 588 appearances and scored 226 goals in the process.

Following retirement he moved into coaching and holds a UEFA A Coaching Licence. He has had spells at Colne and Padiham and recently as first team Coach at Hallmark Security Premier League side Northwich Victoria.

Announcing the appointment, Garstang’s chairman Adrian Wilding said: “This is a great day for the football club, the club sponsors and of course our supporters and players.

“We have secured the services of a highly motivated, hugely respected, stand out coach who will be able to build on the progress of recent seasons and drive the club forward.”

The new manager, pictured, said: “I am excited at the prospect of joining such a progressive and successful football club and I will be looking forward to working with the strong playing squad already in place.

"My objective is to build on the club’a excellent debut season last year in the Hallmark Security League and push Garstang FC on to the next level.”
